NEW YORK — The intersection of comedy and political warfare has reached a new, volatile peak. Leslie Jones, the Emmy-winning actress and Saturday Night Live alum, has used a recent appearance on the high-profile podcast The Best People with Nicolle Wallace to issue a demand that many are calling a blueprint for political persecution: the wholesale incarceration of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Jones, who was promoting her new comedy special Life: Part Two, quickly pivoted from humor to a raw, visceral critique of the current American landscape. During the nearly hour-long episode, she didn’t just lament the state of “Trump’s America”—she called for a systematic dismantling of its enforcement arm.
“There has to be a reckoning,” Jones stated, her voice thick with conviction.
“When the Democrats get back in there, we can’t just move on. We need to go after the people who carried this out. All those ICE employees, everyone who thought they were just ‘following orders’—they need to be in jail. Period.”
The comments have sent shockwaves through the nation, particularly as the Trump administration continues its aggressive “zero-tolerance” border policies. Jones framed her call for imprisonment as a matter of “accountability,” arguing that federal agents have been complicit in human rights violations. However, her critics argue that calling for the imprisonment of civil servants for performing duties mandated by federal law is a step toward total lawlessness.
“I thought Reagan was bad, but at least he knew how to talk,” Jones said earlier in the year during a similar guest-hosting stint on The Daily Show, where she labeled the current administration “incel losers.” This latest “reckoning” comment, however, moves beyond name-calling into the realm of legal retribution.
The reaction on social media has been a digital wildfire. On platforms like X and Facebook, the hashtag #JailICE has trended alongside #ArrestLeslieJones, highlighting a nation deeply divided. For many on the left, Jones is speaking the “unvarnished truth” that career politicians are too afraid to utter. For those on the right, her words are seen as an incitement to violence against federal officers.
“It takes a rare kind of brilliance to be universally funny,” the podcast description noted, but the hilarity was absent as Jones recounted her observations of political absurdity. She urged her listeners to “reject complacency and reclaim the moment,” suggesting that voting is merely the first step toward a broader “cleaning of the house.”

The rhetoric has not gone unnoticed by the Department of Homeland Security. Sources within the agency suggest that such public calls for the mass arrest of federal employees create a “hostile and dangerous environment” for agents on the front lines. Law enforcement advocacy groups have already called on media platforms to flag the content as a “threat to public safety.”
Jones, however, is no stranger to being the center of a storm. From receiving death threats after her casting in the all-female Ghostbusters reboot—which she famously compared to “something Trump would do”—to her public battles with social media giants over online abuse, she has long been a lightning rod for cultural conflict.
“I am so tired of being the bigger person,” Jones told The Guardian in a recent interview.
“No, meet these motherf**kers where they at and fight back.”
As the 2025 midterms approach, the “Jones Doctrine” of political reckoning is becoming a central theme in the culture wars. While some see it as a desperate plea for justice, others see it as the final collapse of civil discourse in America. If the “gloves are off” for the icons of entertainment, the question remains: what happens when the fans decide to take those words into the streets?

One thing is certain: Leslie Jones isn’t just looking for laughs anymore. She’s looking for a revolution, and she’s starting with the keys to the cell block.
